Broadsword Challenge 2024
West Nova Historical Fencing is excited to bring the first Storica Defensa sanctioned tournament in Atlantic Canada! This means we will follow the Storica Defensa ruleset, gear requirements, and safety standards.

The event is open to ALL, and we want to welcome competitors from outside of Storica Defensa, as well as outside of Atlantic Canada, to come join us this May.
Details
Weapons
This is a single broadsword only tournament, meaning:
- Nothing held in the offhand
- Broadswords will be used (no military sabre or sidesword).
- Broadswords from known makers preferred, but other broadswords will be allowed subject to inspection. Detailed requirements will be posted on this page soon.
- Castille, Armour Class, Exotic Sword Emporium, and Black Fencer all produce steel Broadswords that meet the tournament requirements.
Ruleset & Format
Storica Defensa tournament rules and format will be used. Full details will be available on this page soon.
Ages & Categories
Storica Defensa categories will be used, and people will be divided by skill, age, and gender (where possible).

Beginners - for the purposes of this tournament, beginners are fencers with less than 12 months experience.

Ibis/Experienced - Ibis ranked fencers, as well as experienced fencers without Storica Defensa rank, will be grouped together.

Ram and Above - Storica Defensa ranked Ram, Lion, Fist, and Oak fencers will compete in their own category.

Under 13 (11-12) - Not a Storica Defensa category. WNHF will run this 'intro to tournament' category for its youngest fencers.

Under 15 Boys, Girls, & Open (13-14) - Where there are enough people to make separate categories in this age range we will. Otherwise it will be an Open category only.

Junior Boys, Girls, & Open (15-17)-Where there are enough people to make separate categories in this age range we will. Otherwise it will be an Open category only.

Senior Men, Women, & Trans/NB (18-35) - Individual categories

Master's Men, Women, & Trans/NB (35+) - Individual categories
